Rev. Ray Jordan is a trailblazing preacher, academic, community leader and consultant to churches, non-profits, corporate entities, and institutions of higher education, though his gifts have shone brightest as a local pastor. Most recently, Ray has served as the Senior Minister of the 75-year old First Community Church of Dallas, and as the Senior Minister of the 120-year old Central Congregational Church of Dallas, a historic first for both. As a United Church of Christ clergy person, he has served the UCC on every level, including as the first African American president of the North Texas Association, the founding Chair of Church Revitalization for the South Central Conference and in numerous roles and appointments across the national church.
In addition to a vocation of Christian ministry, Ray is an academic, his latest appointment being in the Graduate Liberal Studies Program of Southern Methodist University (SMU), teaching graduate courses in Human Rights, Social Justice and Dispute Resolution. When not in the classroom or chancel, Ray continues to be a sought-after speaker, workshop leader and facilitator in areas organizational development and cultural competency, boasting an extensive list of clients that includes the World Affairs Council of Orange County.
Although Ray is originally from Oakland, CA, he grew up on a farm in rural Arkansas, where both his grandmother and other “church ladies” stressed the importance of education. Hence, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education, a Master of Arts in Education, a Master of Theological Studies and has completed PhD coursework (ABD) with research in the intersection of faith communities and public policy. When not working, Ray can be found enjoying theater, live music, museums, walks on the beach, and spending time with his three adult children, Trey, Alley and Joshua Caleb.
